INTERNATIONAL VENUES

                                                                    Tenerife 2016

2016 saw a group of 18 performers and 5 chaperones travel to Tenerife in August to perform in 5 star hotels and holiday resorts to international audiences.

The Gillian Banks Theatre School have just returned from their very successful vocational training and fundraising trip to Tenerife. The group of 25 travelled to Tenerife this August to perform on the sunny island and raise money for local charities. They performed in The Palms , Golf del sur to a packed house and raised money for the Orphange Guardyl in Granadilla on Tenerife and Live Arico ( PAWS ) helping animals charity. They performed in the Playa De La Arena 4 star hotel for their spanish partner agency Viana Shows to standing ovations from an international audience and offers of employment from the hotel management. The next evening saw another charity performance in Los Gigantes at the Harbour Club  where the patron of the theatre school Nick Page joined the students on stage to perform a section of the West End Musical Nick was the star of Les Miserables. Another sold out pèrformance  saw 15oo euros being raised for the choosen charities and the experience of performing with a west end star being added to th students´cv´s.
The final performance of the visit was in the 5 star Anthelia Grand hotel in adeje with a fabulous theatre and professional lighting and sound being utilised to enhance the performance further. The scheme has been supported by Morthyng Training and European Mobility programme through Chris McCormac and his links with the Leonardo fund and is a unique opportunity created by Gillian to give alternative opportunities to access employment in the performing arts industry. The School is gaining annual places in top theatre schools , such as Laines Theatre Arts , and students are being offered places but the expense of living in London and paying the tutition fees restricts some individuals. This scheme allows progression into the industry if theatre school is not an option for some performers and is proving to be most successful. Gillian currently has people working around the world in resorts and on cruise ships as well as training in theatre schools and universities but now through this scheme and her links in Tenerife she has gained employment for her students on the island starting in October. She strives for opportunities and close working relationships and is now providing full time employment to the students in this country and abroad with fantastic results and success stories

Tenerife October 2015

The Gillian Banks Theatre School has just returned from hotter climates , namely Tenerife where they have undertaken a vocational and fund raising visit raising 3366 euros. 15 performers travelled to Tenerife to raise monies for a local charity 'Live Arico '  who rescue and save the lives of abondoned dogs on the Spanish Island , which is a major problem since they do not have RSPCA or any animal support from the government and the numbers of dogs and cruelty to animals is on the increase given the financial situation across the world. The Theatre School organised for a patron of the school ' Nik Page' who played Jean Val Jean in the  West End production of Les Miserables to appear alongside students from the School at the Rotherham and Barnsley Chamber of Commerce's President's Ball at Magna in May and helped raise over £10,000 for local charities in Rotherham , so to repay Nik for his kindness the school organised a return visit to the island for Nik's choosen charity.

The week has been a tremendous success with 4 performances being undertaken throughout the week, 1 in a 5 star hotel ' The Anthelia Grand' with a large international audience, 1  in Los Gigantes in the north of Tenerife , another for professional acts The Dreams and 2 Chique in Las Americas and the fourth one at the Palms on Golf Del Sur. All the performances were sold out, hence the grand sum of over 3000 euros being raised. There were 15 professional and semi professional singers and dancers who  travelled around the island along with sound systems and microphones as well as costumes and props to facilitate the professional standard of performance.

Following the successful week,  requests for future performances have already been made and opportunites for professional venues have been received to make the next visit even more succesful and beneficial.
